Sanctions and South Pars – what now for Iranian gas?

Despite the immense promise of Iran’s untapped gas resources, only ten of South Pars’ visual_editor4 phases have so far been developed. And although Iranian gas production has grown markedly in recent years (up from 116 Bcm in visual_editor008 to 151 Bcm in visual_editor011, according to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy visual_editor01visual_editor), with progress at South Pars feeding this rise, production from the giant field stands at a mere 10 Bcf/d, according to the US Energy Information Association (EIA). Other estimations put the figure closer to 7.5 Bcf/d, but both estimations fall well short of the 30 Bcf/d that Iran hopes to produce once all visual_editor4 phases are complete.
